Disciples’ Village will soon have our first Journeyman!
We are excited to announce that Shersty Stanton will be joining our staff in Haiti on May 23! An intern for the previous two summers, many of you have met Shersty and know what an asset she will be to DV.
Not only does she bring her experience with Disciples’ Village to this new position, her degree plan has especially equipped her to further develop our village partnership program. Shersty is graduating in May with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship with an emphasis in Faith, Culture, & Ethics. As a missionary in training with DV, she will take what she learned in school and translate it to the villages of Haiti. Her education has uniquely prepared her to offer expertise in the area of economic development in the communities we serve.
Shersty’s primary responsibilities will include
- Overseeing the Internship program
- Overseeing the Micro-loan initiative
- Developing business plans for individuals and villages
We asked Shersty what she hoped God would accomplish through her during her time as a Journeyman:
I hope that whatever we begin, it would be done in such a way that the Haitians can sustain. I want to create a pattern of forward thinking, which will be a shift for the momentary thinking they are accustomed to due to the extreme poverty. In the end, I hope to see Haitians lifting themselves out of poverty rather than us enabling them out of poverty.
The Journeyman program is a designed to train aspiring missionaries and emphasizes leadership and initiative. It requires a 2 year time commitment, and previous experience with Disciples’ Village. We know Shersty is going to be a great blessing in our efforts to advance 3rd World villages with the light of Jesus Christ! Welcome Shersty!
