Hey ya’ll. I’m Beth.
Bill and I decided it was time I introduce myself to the Disciples’ Village family. So here’s the short version of who I am and how I got involved with Disciples’ Village…
My husband first visited Haiti in 2011 where he met Bill. Alex’s House was just a baby at that time, operating out of the tiny house in Port au Prince. Nathan loved the vision of Alex’s House, so he led our church to become a partner and began leading mission trips there as often as possible.
As a young Mama who was adding children to our fold on a regular basis, I stayed behind and kept the home fires burning as Nathan traveled to and fro. All the while I was falling more and more in love with God’s work through Alex’s House. Each time Nathan returned from a trip with a new batch of pictures and tales of all that God was doing, I was drawn to be involved in a bigger way. And, I couldn’t wait until the day I got my own first hand experience in Haiti!
But by the time child number 4 joined our family, I began to give up on that dream of being more involved. I assumed my role in Disciples’ Village was to pray and make it possible for Nathan to go by taking care of ALL THE KIDS while He was away.
I started a little blog looking for an outlet for my love of writing, and attended a conference for writers in the fall of 2014 where I learned about websites and blogging. About that time Bill visited our home and spoke at our church. I pestered him to death about how I could help the ministry from my living room. As the months rolled on, I offered to help with tasks associated with the Alex’s House website.
I don’t think Bill had any idea what he was getting into! What began with adding a simple newsletter sign up on the old website, ended with an entirely new website and plans for revamping communication efforts. Eventually, I was helping with several aspects of the ministry and by January of 2016 I was officially added as stateside staff as Director of Public Relations.
Only God does that sort of thing.
I’m pleased to say I’ve made two trips to Haiti in the last year. In between trips, I’m having the time of my life being involved with what God is doing through Disciples’ Village from my living room. I’m learning He can leverage any (seemingly) tiny effort we offer Him.
So now you know the story. I love getting to know you all and working together on a common love. Let me know if there are ways I can help you when it comes to getting the word out about Disicples’ Village!
With deep affection for all of you,
