1. Mitchina’s Homegoing
Our sweet Mitchina went to be with Jesus in the early hours of January 14 after a year-long battle with cancer. She was fourteen years old. We remember her for her courageous spirit, her strong will to succeed, her outstanding athletic ability and mostly for her loving smile and caring spirit. We love you sweet girl. You’ll always be in our hearts. Please continue to pray for the DV family and Alex’s House children as we walk through this loss.
2. New American Partnering Church
We are excited to announce our newest partnering church, Summerville Baptist Church from Summerville, SC! Pastor Randy Harling and the congregation are partnering with the Village of Maynard and Pastor Leclet. Summerville Baptist just had their Child Sponsorship Sunday on January 19 and they are off to a great start! We are so excited and blessed by their partnership as we continue to shine the light of Christ in Haiti!
3. Christmas in January
Due to the protests at the end of 2019, our DV staff was not able to host the Alex’s House Christmas party in December. Nevertheless, we extended the Christmas season and hosted the Christmas party as soon as our staff was able to return! The staff made construction paper ornaments and garland with the kids for the tree and hung Christmas lights and decorations in the cafeteria. Everyone came together and cooked for two days to prepare for the feast. The staff was so excited to hand out the kid’s presents before the big dinner.
4. First Mission Group of 2020
We started out this year with The Gathering serving in Dahl, Barboncourt, Caries, and Lanzac. The Gathering hosted medical clinics in each of these villages and approximately 533 patients were taken care of, encouraged and prayed for. It was a week of seeing our God move in mighty ways! We are so thankful for this exciting start of 2020.
If your church or organization is interested in bringing a medical team to Haiti, please contact karen@disciplesvillage. We would love to serve alongside you to make a difference in the lives of our Haitian brothers and sisters.
